How to Make a DIY Bourbon Street Sign for Mardi Gras
Step 1: Bourbon street sign shape
First, measure and cut a 4” x 12” rectangle out of cardboard. You want to use cardboard as it is rigid and sturdy.
Next, measure 3.5” from each side, and ½” from the top. Cut this off the cardboard. It will create the sign shape.
This will leave a top protruding section of 5” x ½”.
Step 2: Create the backing for your Bourbon Street sign
Using the cardboard sign shape as a template, trace the shape onto the black cardstock. Then cut the sign shape out of the black cardstock.
Glue the black cardstock to cardboard.
*Tip: I used a glue stick, so it would lay flat and glue lines wouldn’t show.
Step 3: Print out the words for your Bourbon St diy Mardi Gras sign
I created the text for my DIY Bourbon Street sign for Mardi Gras using Word.
When researching, I found that Times New Roman bold is the closest font to the actual sign font.
Type the text into a Word document. Then increase the font to 218, and pushed the letters closer together, for this size sign.
Now print out your text on white cardstock. Standard copy paper will be too thin and won’t look as nice.
Cut out the letters and glue them on the black cardstock sign. It’s best to lay out the letters first, so you know where they will go, and then glue one at a time.
Note: if you have a Circuit machine, use white vinyl and this link for the text: https://design.cricut.com/landing/project-detail/601a39184963e70310fa84ca.

This method did not work very well for me. Could you expand on how to push my letter togethers?
Hi Cee ~ I’m sorry you hit a bump with this diy project. To push the letters together in Word you will want to use these steps: 1) Highlight the word 2) Select “font” 3) Select the “Advanced” tab at the top – next to “font” 4) Under “spacing” select “condensed” and then next to “by” put in “10 pt” for point size. Hope that helps!
