Do you know the top 7 reasons why you need to use your tablecloths?
Do you own a few tablecloths? Are they collecting dust in a drawer or at the back of a shelf? Never being used.
Why do you have those tablecloths?
Were they a gift? Maybe you inherited them from your grandmother. Or maybe you thought they were beautiful and perfect, so bought them.
But you aren’t using them, are you?
Whatever the reason, you need to use your tablecloths. Starting now…
As in TODAY.
Below are the top 7 reasons why you need to use your tablecloths.
1. Justify the money spent on your tablecloth.
Did you spend a lot of money on your tablecloth(s)? Or maybe it was an expensive gift. And for that reason, you are afraid to use it. You are afraid of it getting ruined.
Well, you know what ~ the expense of the tablecloth is the best reason to use it.
There is nothing worse than spending a lot of money on something, just for it to be stored away and never see the light of day.
Did you buy the tablecloth with the sole purpose of putting it in a box and never using it? Or were you envisioning how nice it would look on your dining table?
You need to use your tablecloth which will then justify why you bought it.
2. Show them off to friends and family
Tablecloths come in tons of colors and patterns. Use them on your table and show them off to your friends and family.
A tablecloth is like a new article of clothing. People don’t notice a plain dining room table. But a tablecloth will draw their eye to the table, and they will take notice. Your friends and family will remark on the pretty color, the unique pattern, or the elegant simplicity of the tablecloth. They will admire it.
So show off that tablecloth! Now, isn’t that a great reason to use your tablecloth?
3. To not take up valuable space on shelves or in drawers
You need to use your tablecloths to help minimize the valuable space in your closets or drawers. If you have a few tablecloths, they can take up a whole drawer or closet shelf. To lessen the amount of space they take up, use them on your kitchen and/or dining table.
As a side note: tablecloths can be used on coffee tables too!
4. They can be cleaned – use your tablecloth – don’t stress about stains
Maybe you’re afraid of your tablecloths getting stained. I get it. But that shouldn’t be a reason not to use them. What good is a tablecloth when it just sits on a shelf?
If you are concerned about stains, you have two options:
- Learn how to treat the potential stains and tackle them right after they happen. If treated quickly, most will never set and won’t stain your tablecloth.
- Remove the table linens before sitting down to eat. Use them only for decoration.
Note: stains aren’t completely unavoidable. Consider viewing the stain as a memory of a wonderful gathering. Friends and family enjoying their time with you.
In either case, the fear of stains isn’t a good reason to store your table linens away, never to be seen or appreciated.
5. The color and patterns of tablecloths can go out of date – use them while they are in style
Is your tablecloth a popular color or pattern right now? Then use it while it’s still trendy. And use it often!
Tablecloths are large pieces of fabric, and like fashion, the popularity of their color and patterns will come and go. Just think of how the browns, greens, and oranges of the ’70s were SO popular, then they completely went out of style, only to see a resurgence decades later.
Tablecloths are the same way. They will always be useful, but the color or design might go out of style.
6. Grandma would be proud you are using her tablecloths
Have you inherited your grandmother’s tablecloths? Are they completely NOT your style?

I get it. I too inherited tablecloths from my grandmother that are nothing I would choose.
But you know what? That is the beauty of them.
Your grandmother selected that tablecloth. It meant something to her and it’s a reflection of her style and that time in her life. Embrace and honor it.
Use your grandmother’s tablecloth and think of her. Don’t get caught up in that it isn’t your style. That tablecloth is about remembering her and what happened around her table when it was used.
I bet your family will love seeing it used. They will bring up and share wonderful memories, which is a great reason to use Grandma’s tablecloth.
7. Use your tablecloth to protect your table from spills and scratches
Tablecloths aren’t used just to beautify your table. They serve a purpose. A great purpose.
Tablecloths are used to protect your table from spills and scratches, smudges, and dings. They help keep the wood, glass, or other material in good condition. Thereby extending the life of your dining table.
Think of tablecloths as insurance. They ensure your beautiful table won’t get damaged.
After all, it’s much cheaper to replace a tablecloth, than to replace a dining room table. What better reason to use your tablecloths?
Please, please, please put your wonderful tablecloths to use. Share them with your friends and family. You won’t regret it.
Rather than fold my tablecloths to store in a cupboard I have a metal pants hanger with 7 bars that easily lift to add or remove items. It’s perfect for hanging tablecloths creating only a few folds to fit the bars. I hang them in my laundry room which is a great place to store them. I have several of these pant hangers for each size of tablecloth.
That is a wonderful way to store your tablecloths! Thanks for sharing.
