Get ready for a hefty dose of nostalgia, because we’re not just reminiscing – we’re bringing vintage snack sets back to life!
For those of you unfamiliar with snack sets, they were all the rage in the 40s through the 70s, especially during the 50s and 60s.
Typically, they were glass trays with sections for food, often accompanied by a small cup.
For some of you, these charming glass trays may be a familiar sight from childhood gatherings. But for others, this might be a whole new discovery!
Snack sets fell out of favor with the rise of Tupperware and plastic, but there’s so much potential in these retro cuties!
Imagine transforming your gatherings with a touch of vintage flair.
Snack sets are perfect for all sorts of occasions, from casual brunches to fancy afternoon teas.
Get ready for a trip down memory lane, because I’m talking about the history of snack sets, how they were used, and – most importantly – how we can bring them back into our modern gatherings!
A Blast from the Past: The Heyday of Snack Sets
Imagine this: it’s the 1950s or 60s. Ladies are gathered around a table, dressed to the nines, chatting over lunch or playing cards.
What ties the scene together?
You guessed it – snack sets!
These affordable glass trays were a staple in many households.
They weren’t just about aesthetics, though.
Snack sets were functional too.
The tray held finger foods like sandwiches, salads, or the ever-popular jelly molds, while the matching cup was perfect for coffee, tea, or punch.

Check out how I used them on this Galentine’s Day table.
The Decline and Fall (…or Did It?)
Fast forward to the 70s, and things started to change.
The rise of Tupperware and plastic brought about a shift towards more durable and disposable serving options.
Sadly, the beloved snack sets got pushed aside and ended up forgotten in cabinets or hitting the thrift store shelves.
But Wait, There’s More! The Revival of Snack Sets
Here’s the exciting news: snack sets are having a comeback!
They’re a perfect way to add a touch of vintage charm and eco-friendly reusability to your gatherings.
Plus, they’re surprisingly versatile!
