I wanted something unique and easy to make for my daughter’s graduation party. And I wanted to put it on the buffet table for decoration.
The centerpiece looks like a graduate’s head, doesn’t it? I think it turned out pretty darn cute!


Supplies for a unique DIY graduation party centerpiece
- Wooden embroidery hoop (just the inside piece)
- Spray paint
- Woodblock (for base)
- Black card stock
- Tassel (see my easy DIY to make them yourself)
- 2.5” ribbon
- Hot glue gun
Instructions for grad party centerpiece decoration
Step 1: Spray paint your inside section embroidery hoop and the wood block base.
Step 2: Once dry, glue the embroidery hoop to the base.

Step 3: Hang a graduation tassel from the top of the embroidery hoop. They are super simple to make yourself. Check out the instructions here: easy DIY embroidery floss tassel.

Step 4: Cut a 6” x 8” piece of stiff black cardstock and glue it to the top of the embroidery hoop – covering the tied-off section of the tassel.

Step 5: Make a bow with your ribbon and glue it to the base of the embroidery hoop – covering the section that you glued to the base.
