Product Description
Product Description
3M Marine Adhesive Sealant Fast Cure 5200 is a fast-curing version of long-trusted 3M Marine Adhesive Sealant 5200. It is a tough, flexible polyurethane for permanent bonding and sealing, ideal for use on wood, gelcoat, fiberglass, metal and more. It is recommended for interiors, below the waterline and any other places that are shielded from sunlight. Instead of 5-7 days, it typically cures in just 48 hours. Everything else is the same as the industry standard 5200 adhesive sealant that has been used and trusted for more than 50 years by marine professionals in some of the most demanding conditions on earth. It applies right from the container – no mixing is required - and cures to form a firm, flexible, waterproof seal on joints and boat hardware. Far more than a marine caulk, tough, flexible 3M Marine Adhesive Sealant 5200FC dissipates stress caused by vibration and shock and won’t crack under dynamic force. It resists saltwater, wind, weather and temperature extremes for long periods of worry-free enjoyment on the water.
From the Manufacturer
3M Marine Adhesive Sealant 5200 White. The adhesive sealant is extremely strong, retains its strength above or below water line. Stays flexible too - allows for structural movement. Has excellent resistance to weathering and salt water.
Stress caused by shock, vibration, swelling or shrinking is effectively absorbed. Check the bonding and sealing jobs this product can handle for you: fiberglass deck to fiberglass hull, wood to fiberglass, portholes and deck fittings, motors on fiberglass transoms, under mouldings, hull seams above and below water line. Center board trunk joints. Between struts and planking. Stern joints. Deck housing, etc. Easy to apply with manual caulking gun. Remains workable with trowel or spatula up to four hours after application. Won't sag or flow in vertical or horizontal seams.

So five stars for adhesion, toughness, and a permanent bond. Just don't get it on stuff you don't want it on. The instructions say to avoid alcohol as that will inhibit the cure. Alcohol does work to get it off your skin when used immediately.
It cures when exposed to moisture. Once the seal is broken the tube has a limited useful life, unless you keep in in a sealed container with desiccant. An old glass pickle jar works well. I keep all my water sensitive adhesives dry in a sealed container with desiccant.
The only downside to 3M Fast Cure 5200 is that it's messy and not very reusable. Even the small tubes are expensive. When you cap after using, make sure you find a way to use the rest of this sealant in the not-too-distant future as the cap will become difficult to remove, and the sealant will harden up near the cap. 3M 5200 sticks to just about every type of material on the planet and is impenetrable to water. For boats, 3M 5200 is a must-have, use it to quickly patch up holes and cracks, it'll keep your boat afloat without any leaks whatsoever.
