Are you looking for a fun and easy DIY felt napkin ring for your Fall or Autumn table setting? These Leaf Napkin Rings are the EASIEST!
Bonus ~ no sewing required!
I was working on a table setting for Fall and wanted something a little different. A napkin ring that screamed Fall. But as usual, I didn’t want to spend much on them.
I looked through my craft stash and found fleece that I had leftover from an old project.
Light bulb!
No-sew felt (or fleece) napkin rings!!
Besides being SUPER easy to make, they are machine washable!!!
*Note: I refer to my Fall napkin rings as both felt and fleece, interchangeably. They are different fabrics but are practically the same in the respect of how I used them. Also, people who aren’t familiar with the differences of the two fabrics, often refer to fleece as felt.
Felt is stiffer and often rougher than fleece. It is often made of wool (which is typically not machine washable).
Fleece is soft and loose feeling. The bonus with fleece is the variety of colors and patterns available at your local craft or fabric store.

How to Make Felt Leaf Napkin Rings
Step 1: Prep for your diy felt (or fleece) napkin ring
Prewash your fleece fabric and select your leaf pattern.
If you want to use my leaf pattern, feel free to download it. Or you can find one online, or draw it freehand yourself. Just make sure it takes up an 8.5” x 11” piece of paper. This should ensure that it isn’t too small for your napkin.

Step 2: Cut out your fleece napkin ring shape
Layout your fleece and pin your leaf pattern to the fabric. If you don’t have stick pins use small items around the house that you can use as weights to keep the leaf pattern from moving.

Now cut out the leaf shape.

Cut as many leaves as napkin rings you need.
Step 3: Create slip for napkin
To create the slip for the napkin, you will need to cut two lines across the middle of your felt leaves. I found that cutting a line 2.5” long worked well for my napkins.
Make sure your two cut lines are at least ¾” apart. And that you only cut in the middle of the leaf, not all the way to the edge.

*Tip: take a ruler and draw the lines with a pencil, or washable fabric pen.
Final Step: Add your napkin
Fold or roll your napkin and slip it into your napkin holder.

Voila! That’s it. Easy-Peasy!

These felt place mats and napkin rings are so clever – I think I will use other colors and the same idea for different occasions – I see a nice collection and easy to store. One note: Synthetic felt is made from ground up recycled plastics such as water bottles. It is washable, test wool felt for washability, it may distort.
Yes, correct regarding synthetic versus wool felt. Thank you for the added info.
