Valentine’s Day is around the corner. Are you planning an intimate dinner and wondering how to make a romantic table setting for two?
My husband and I used to enjoy eating out for Valentine’s Day, but now we prefer a nice romantic dinner at home.
Just the two of us. Not at a restaurant filled with other couples, with tables often crammed close together, and having a hard time hearing each other.
That’s not romantic.
It’s much more intimate to stare at each other across a romantic table setting for two at home.
And you know what, it’s SO EASY to create that romantic mood with your tablescape.
Are you wondering how to make a table setup romantic? How to create that romantic table setting at home?
Check out my tips on how easy it is to set up a romantic table…
5 Essential Tips for How to Set a Romantic Table Setting for Two at Home
1~ First you need to create an intimate setting
To create a romantic table setting, you first need to create an intimate setting. There are a few ways you can do this.
You can create an intimate setting by using a smaller table. It doesn’t need to be your kitchen table. Maybe sit on the floor and use your coffee table.
Or you can lay out a blanket on the floor with pillows and floor cushions.
Or at your dining table, sit next to each other, or at the corners of your table.
You just need to sit in such a way that you are close to each other, not at opposite ends of a table.
2~ Second, create a simple centerpiece
A romantic table setting for two doesn’t need a large centerpiece. It’s not necessary.
When creating an intimate dinner setting, make your centerpiece small and simple. A bud vase with one beautiful flower or a small floral bouquet is perfect.
For Valentine’s Day, you might receive a dozen roses (which are beautiful!), but they don’t need to be the centerpiece for your romantic table for two.
Also – this is key – make sure you can see each other.
Maybe that’s obvious, but when you’re creating a romantic centerpiece, make sure you can see each other.
The tendency is to set a table’s centerpiece smack in the middle of you and your guest, but that often provides an obstacle to seeing each other. Move it off to the side so it won’t be in the way. Then you can enjoy your centerpiece and talk to each other.
Just to be sure; sit down at your table and make sure you will be able to see your dinner guest. There’s nothing that can quickly dampen a romantic dinner for two, then dodging an annoying centerpiece.
3~ Third, set the mood with candles. Candles are a must for romantic dinner table setting
Dim the lights and use candles as part of your simple centerpiece. I would suggest either tall taper candles or small votive candles, or a combination of both. The small/thin size of these candle types creates a romantic setting on your dining table.
Plus, eating by candlelight is very romantic.
(You can use pillar candles, but their wider size tends to not come across as setting a romantic mood.)

4~ Fourth, something unexpected adds to your romantic dinner table at home
Add a little something special to your romantic table setting. Something that your special someone isn’t expecting. Place it on or above the plate.
Maybe a sweet note from the heart. Maybe something you diy’d. Or maybe something you found at a local shop.
It doesn’t need to be big or expensive. Just a little something that expresses your love for him/her.
5~ Fifth, a romantic dinner setting requires using your best dishes and glassware
Show that special person in your life how much you care by setting your romantic dinner table with your best glasses and dishes.
This is the meal to dust off and use that fine china and crystal (if you have it). A romantic meal deserves the best.
When you think about it. These tips for how to set a romantic table setting for two at home are pretty simple and easy to follow.
Don’t be afraid to set up a romantic table for two at home. You can do it!
PS: Don’t forget to have music playing softly in the background! It really helps set the mood.
