I’m so excited to share a little project I’ve been working on ~ a French farmhouse tablescape. And the best part? I created this entire look for under $40!
Yep, you read that right.
Everything from the tablecloth to the dishes, flatware, and glasses was sourced from estate sales, making this a budget-friendly yet elegant tablescape that you can easily replicate.

I’m all about finding stylish and affordable ways to decorate my home, and this table setting is a perfect example.
Check out how I transformed some thrifted treasures into a charming budget friendly French farmhouse-inspired tablescape.
How to Create a Budget-Friendly French Farmhouse Tablescape
The Inspiration: A Fabulous Dough Bowl
Like any good design project, it all started with a little inspiration.
I stumbled upon the most amazing old dough bowl at an estate sale for just $30! (Not included in the $40 tablescape budget)
It was love at first sight!

Even though it was too big to use as a centerpiece, I knew I wanted to create a tablescape around its rustic charm.
I decided to channel a French farmhouse aesthetic, which is all about combining simple elegance with a casual, lived-in feel. Think of it as a cozy, inviting space where you can relax and enjoy good food and company.
I envisioned a French farmhouse, not the elegant and reserved French country style, but a working farmhouse filled with sturdy antiques and a relaxed, comfortable vibe.
Building the Base: The Tablecloth
The foundation of any great tablescape is the tablecloth.
I found this incredible linen tablecloth at an estate sale for a whopping $4!

It has the most beautiful embroidered details and a soft, relaxed look that’s perfect for a farmhouse style.

To enhance that casual, relaxed feeling, I decided to skip the ironing. I wanted the tablecloth to look as if it had been washed and hung to dry in the open air.
Layering in the Details: Plates, Flatware, and Glasses
Next, I added a set of six dinner plates and six salad plates I found at a different estate sale.
These plates are not vintage but were from Pier 1. I couldn’t believe it when I found out they were originally $9 each, but I snagged all 12 for $10!
They have a beautiful scroll design and a slightly rustic look that perfectly complemented the tablecloth and captured the essence of the French farmhouse look I was going for.
Plus, the rustic brown rubbed detail on them adds a touch of warmth and character to the table.

For the flatware, I discovered a treasure trove of silver at an estate sale.
After a bit of polishing, I had a complete five-piece place setting for 12 people – all for just $5!
For the napkins, I selected ones that complemented the tablecloth, featuring similar embroidery and cutwork.
I folded them to showcase the detailed edges and placed them next to the forks, tines down, in true French style.

To finish the place settings, I used a mix of mismatched glasses I found at another estate sale for a total of $6. They added a touch of individuality and charm to the table.
Creating a Focal Point: The Centerpiece
To bring the outdoors in, I used a collection of vintage small milk glass bottles as vases for my centerpiece.

I filled them with wildflowers for a fresh, summery look.
These little milk bottles were another estate sale find, costing just $2 for the set.
Finishing Touches: Adding Personality
To complete the tablescape, I added two different small antique pitchers found at estate sales and a pair of vintage salt and pepper shakers.

I also included some butter pat dishes for a touch of whimsy.

All of which cost just $6!
The Grand Reveal: A Budget-Friendly French Farmhouse Tablescape
And there you have it – a stunning French farmhouse table setting for under $40!

I’m so happy with how it turned out.
It’s cozy, inviting, and full of character.
Remember, creating a beautiful table doesn’t have to break the bank. With a little creativity and patience, you can transform your dining space into a charming and stylish retreat.

I hope this inspires you to create your own budget-friendly tablescape.
Happy decorating!
