Maybe you don’t have Christmas plates. Or you don’t want to buy another set of dishes. Or you don’t have any place to store them.

I get it. I TOTALLY do!
My everyday dishes are yellow with a ring of dark blue. NOT Christmasy AT ALL!
I thought you too might have the same dilemma. How to use them on a Christmas tablescape and not stand out like a sore thumb.
Don’t fret. I’ve got ya.
I’ve put together a few Christmas place settings that will help. There are a few examples using white dishes, and a few using my yellow and blue plates.

If you have white dinner plates, they are very versatile for creating festive Christmas place settings. They really allow the other elements of the place setting to be the primary focal point. And white dinner plates provide limitless color combinations!
1. White plate with Christmas print napkin
To create a pretty Christmas place setting using a white plate, start with the napkin. Find a napkin that you love and has colors you want to highlight on your tablescape.
For this place setting, I used a red print napkin that has green and pops of gold. I then added a gold napkin ring and gold charger to highlight the gold in the napkin.
The white plate serves as a backdrop to all of the place setting’s elements so that they really stand out.

2. White plate in a rustic Christmas place setting

This rustic place setting has a farmhouse Christmas feeling. Using a green and white checkered napkin gives it that relaxed yet upscale vibe.
Then adding a rattan charger and matching diy napkin ring, completes the whole look.
This would look awesome on a casual Christmas tablescape.
3. Simple red and white festive place setting
For a traditional, simple Christmas place setting, use a napkin and charger plate that are the same color, Either red or green for the holiday.
Then add a festive napkin ring to complete the look.
Just love how the red pops off the white plate!

If you don’t own white dinner plates and have dishes that don’t contain red or green, there are ways to use them in Christmas place settings.
Here are a few ways I would use my everyday plates…
4. Yellow and blue plate with red Christmas print napkin

To make these yellow and blue dinner plates festive for Christmas, I started with a printed red napkin that had pops of gold. That gold tied into the yellow in the plate.
I then added a red charger plate that would compliment the napkin and repeat the red in the place setting.
To complete the place setting, I used a blue and white napkin ring that pulled in the blue ring of the dinner plate.
It creates an eclectic and festive place setting.
5. Yellow and blue plate combined with gold elements
If you like the more traditional Christmas place setting, use the same napkin from the above image, but combine it with a gold napkin ring and charger plate.
The gold accents make the place setting festive and the blue ring on the plates doesn’t stand out that much. Your eye really focuses on the colorful napkin.

6. Festive green printed napkin on yellow plate

Another way to use a colorful dinner plate for a Christmas place setting is to find a napkin that has both the colors of the plates and holiday colors.
Thereby pulling all of the colors together.
In this place setting example, I use a primarily dark green napkin that has yellow and blue to match the plate, along with red for Christmas. So adding a red charger highlights the red in the napkin.
Using a festive napkin ring completes the whole look.
7. Yellow and blue plate with a blue napkin
Not all Christmas place settings require red and/or green.
This place setting uses a blue and white print napkin that has a festive design. Then adding a gold charger elevates the look from casual to elegant.
Using a pretty reindeer napkin ring makes for a festive Christmas place setting.

*The key to creating festive Chrismas place settings when you don’t have Christmas plates, is to find napkins that tie the plates and your Christmas table decorations together. Then incorporate a charger plate and napkin ring that matches your theme.
Plus it’s cheaper and easier to store those items than buying more dishes!
