I’ve been thinking of creating an easy cozy table setting for two at home for a while. Something that was just for my husband and me.
Before I create a table setting, I look for inspiration ~ a launching point for my ideas.
And I kept coming back to blankets and pillows.
That’s all I could picture.
Lots of blankets and comfy pillows.
Because when I think of the word “cozy”, I want to snuggle up in blankets and be comfortable.
But, to me, that didn’t resonate with sitting at a table. Eating.
I mean – is sitting at a table ~ cozy?
Unless you have a Papasan chair at your kitchen table, the answer is no.
So I gave in ~ I decided to embrace the idea of creating a cozy tablescape for two using blankets and pillows.

For me, that meant creating my cozy table setting on the floor. Where I could layout blankets and snuggle into pillows.
So, here’s how I created what I came up with…
How to Create an Easy Cozy Table Setting for Two

1. Lay the foundation for your cozy tablescape
To embrace the cozy feeling, you’ll definitely need blankets. Think of ones that are soft and comfy.
I decided to use throw blankets. They’re not as bulky as large blankets and I can use more to create the cozy setting I wanted. Plus they’re easier to wash.
I started with a patterned cream and steel blue throw from Target. I LOVE how soft it is, and that it has fringe. It’s SUPER CUTE!
I opted to lay it down on our floor diagonally and scrunched it a little.

This gave it a little more interest than if I had laid it out straight.
Next, I added a cute body pillow. Its colors complemented the throw blanket. And on each side of the body pillow, I placed a large, super soft, pillow.

These pillows would be providing softness and comfort to the hard floor. They could easily be moved to sit on or lay against.
Doesn’t it look SO COZY!
2. Set out the place settings
Since I created this comfy tablescape on the floor, I wanted a solid surface for tableware. A place where I could put dishes, glasses, or a centerpiece.
Something that was sturdy and flat.
I found a cute breakfast tray at Target that “fit the bill” perfectly. The darker wood color was warm and soft. It looked great with the colors I was using.

Plus, it had handles! Yay ~ I could easily carry it from the kitchen to the cozy nook I was creating.
Love it!
At first, I was thinking of getting a tray for each of us and putting the place setting on the tray.
For the place settings, I used an off-white plate and a crazy thick, soft dish towel.
OMG! These dish towels were AMAZING! I also found them at Target. They matched the throw and body pillow I was using perfectly. And I can’t tell you how thick and soft they are ~ better than any standard napkin!

Then I tied the flatware with a simple ribbon. Just to dress it up a little.
And the final piece was adding dark blue vintage wine glasses I’d found at an estate sale.

But that didn’t feel very cozy.
So I opted to put the place setting on the blanket and leave the wine glasses on the tray. I wasn’t about to put the glasses on the blanket ~ that seemed like a total recipe for disaster.

3. Add the final touches to your cozy tablescape for two
To really make this “table setting” feel cozy, I felt it needed candlelight. Something that would provide that soft ambiance.
So I added three gorgeous translucent dark blue vases to the tray and added candles inside each one. Although they’re sold as vases, don’t they make fabulous candle holders!

Then to complete the cozy table setting for two at home, I added a different throw over each of the large pillows.

I LOVE these throw blankets! They’re super soft and look like knit sweaters. I mean, the off-white one has a cable stitch pattern which screams cozy to me.

Doesn’t this table setting look SO COZY!
4. Time to eat at your cozy table setting
When it’s time to eat at your cozy tablescape, move the candle holders off the breakfast tray. That way you can use the space for your food dishes.
I put my candles on the fireplace hearth. Don’t they provide a wonderful ambiance there?

*If you don’t have a fireplace, maybe put your candles on a coffee table nearby.

I also moved the two throw blankets that were on the pillows to the opposite side. My thought process was we could use them to snuggle-up in, or at least to cover our legs.

If you prefer, you could also lay the pillows down and sit on them.
Have fun creating your easy cozy table setting for two at home!
