These DIY denim napkin rings are SO incredibly easy to make – you won’t believe it!

A whole new use for old jeans – as napkin rings!
The idea of transforming old jeans into usable napkin rings came to me when I was going through a pile of my daughter’s discarded clothes. She had a pair of jeans that had ripped beyond wearability. So, she was going to toss them.
I was looking at the jeans and trying to figure out if I could salvage them somehow. Then I realized that the belt loops would hold a standard size napkin – light bulb – denim napkin rings!!

Supplies for DIY Denim Napkin Rings
- Old jeans
- Scissors
That’s it!!
How to Make Napkin Rings from Jeans
Step 1: Starting at the zipper, cut the jeans just below the belt loop. Maintain an equal distance from the edge of the waistband and your cutting line, so it won’t be jagged and uneven. Continue until you have removed the whole waistband.

*Note on the image that I cut about ½” below the belt loops.
Step 2: Start with the first belt loop and match it to the back of the second belt loop. This will create a fold. On the backside of the denim, mark the fold with a marker, or a safety pin.
Next, match the second and third belt loops and mark the fold. Continue to do this around the waistband. Most jeans have five belt loops, but some brands have seven.
Step 3: Cut where you have marked the waistband. These marks should be right in the middle of two belt loops, so you will have denim on each side of your belt loop when you cut.

You will probably have more fabric on one side of a loop, than on the other side. If you would like them to be equal, trim the side that has more fabric. You can measure the smaller side and then trim the opposite side to match.
Final: You now have four or six diy denim napkin rings (depending on how many belt loops your jeans had).

If you want to mix it up (like I did), you can also make the jean’s pockets into napkin holders. Just trim around the pockets. *Note: I wanted mine to have a worn/frayed look, so I didn’t trim right next to the pockets. If you want a more finished look, you can cut right next to where the pocket is stitched to the jeans. Then you won’t have any frayed denim.

Aren’t they the easiest! And SO cheap!!
Have fun repurposing your old jeans and making new diy denim napkin rings from them.
