This denim and white lace table setting is a nod to fashion and getting inspiration from clothes. It’s a tablescape that you can easily replicate for your next gathering.
A cute pair of jeans with a white top is a classic look. One that is a true standby in fashion. A look that you can never go wrong wearing.
I have always loved the look of a pair of jeans with a white top. So crisp and clean-looking. And SO iconic, too. Think back to the ‘50s when a white t-shirt and jeans were the look.
So, why not transfer that iconic look to a table setting?
That’s what I did with my denim and white lace tablescape. I love the feminity of the table, yet it isn’t frilly. The denim keeps it grounded.
And SO simple, too!

Inspiration for your table setting can be found anywhere. This denim and white lace table setting is an example of how fashion can easily influence the look and feel of a tablescape. And how you can use that inspiration when creating your own table settings.
Just look at the colors and styles of the outfits you like and use those influences as a jumping-off point for your inspiration.
How to Create Your Own Denim and White Tablescape

Step 1: Find your white tablecloth.
Your tablecloth will be the foundation for your table setting. It will set the overall look and feel of the tablescape.
If you want a classic-looking table, opt for a plain white tablecloth. One without any embellishments. Think of your basic white t-shirt.
If you prefer a modern-looking tablescape, pick a tablecloth with a white-on-white geometric pattern.
Or if you want a “girly-looking” table, use a lace tablecloth. Or a damask one that has a floral pattern.
The choice is yours!
I love, love, love old white lace tablecloths! I have a serious obsession with them.
Do you know that you can find cheap white tablecloths at most antique stores? And I mean cheap! The one I used in this tablescape was $12.
Seriously, 12 dollars!!!

So many people get rid of white tablecloths. I believe it’s because they are too afraid to use them. Just because they are white.
Well, that works for me – I get the benefit of buying them at a fraction of the original price. You just need to open them up and make sure there aren’t any major stains or holes in them.
Step 2: Create your tablescape’s centerpiece
Since the theme for this table setting is denim and white lace, see what you have around your house that you can use. *Always see what you have first, before going out and buying something new.
I have wanted a white wooden serving tray with handles for a long time, but they have always been too expensive (in my mind). So I decided to make one using an old shelf we had around our house.
You know what? It was SO easy! And I love how it turned out!! (If you want to make one too, there is a link at the bottom.)
I used my diy wood serving tray as the base for my centerpiece.

Then I placed three of my upcycled coffee can vases, filled with beautiful white lacey flowers, on the tray. A simple, yet stunning display!

On each side of the serving tray, I created a candle holder.
How did I create them you ask? The base is a small clear glass plate. On it, I placed an upside-down clear glass light shade. *Note: glass lamp shades are easy to find at your local hardware store, or there are even more options like this one on Amazon. (It’s super cute!)
Then I placed a white candle inside the light shade. Don’t they mimic the look of a flower? Love it!

Step 3: Add the place settings to your denim and white table
Because my tablecloth has lace and cut-out areas, there was no need to use placemats or chargers. The tablecloth is so pretty, it needed to be seen!
And since the tablescape was primarily going to be white with pops of denim, I opted to use my white dinner plates and small clear salad plates. The salad plates I acquired (along with other clear glass dishes) at an auction for $2! Yes, that’s right – $2 for the whole lot!! Such a bargain. *Hint: don’t dismiss your local thrift and antique stores. You can find some serious treasures for pennies on the dollar!

Since this table setting isn’t formal, I set out a knife, a spoon, and a fork. The fork I placed in my denim napkin ring and denim napkin pocket. They were SO EASY to make! A wonderfully simple diy project. And too cute, don’t you think?!

I wanted to make sure that the lace detail on the white napkins was visible, so I folded the napkins to a point on one end, so it would be seen.
Then to complete the place setting, I added clear stemmed glasses.
Step 4: Add any extras to complete the denim and lace tablescape’s look
The denim and white lace tablescape was almost complete, but I felt it needed just a touch more denim. So I decided to make these super cute denim place cards. They were simple and fun to make. And I love how they turned out!

You can easily do the same thing with any fabric, as long as it isn’t too flimsy.
They added just the right amount of denim to the overall look.
Step 5: Enjoy Your Denim and White Tablescape!

The most important part of creating a tablescape is having your friends and family over to enjoy a gathering around the table. Plus, they will marvel at how pretty your table is.

Cheers!

Elegant and fun all at the same time!!! Love it!!
Aw, thank you!
This is so cute! What a great idea for a different way to decorate your table. Love it and I’ll have to do this some day.
I appreciate it. Thank you!
This is the look I am using in two weeks!
I need an inexpensive way to decorate for a couple’s church dinner. The program will be the testimonies of a young couple who had to “change hats” after a tragic car wreck.
She is very sweet and feminine, he is a young man in agriculture in our small town. There’s plenty of worn out jeans and old lace tablecloths at the thrift stores in our community to get me started!
OMG! That’s going to be such a cute church dinner! Thank you for sharing. I really appreciate it.
