Are you looking for different ways to decorate a dining table with candles?
It seems like such a simple thing ~ to add candles to your dining table. But do you find yourself in a rut and always putting out the same candleholders, the same way?
I get it.
It’s SO easy to fall back on what works, or not want to think about doing something different with candles on your dining room table.
Well, I’ve got a few fabulous ideas on how you can decorate a dining table with candles. Maybe you’ve seen them before, and maybe you haven’t, but I’m sure they will help break you out of your candle decorating rut.
How to Decorate a Dining Table with Candles
#1 ~ Use a Serving Platter with Candles

For a compact, moveable centerpiece, decorate your dining table with candles placed inside a serving platter or tray.
Use any tray you have around the house, whether it’s rectangular, square, or round, and add pillar candles. Then add tiny river rocks and a few sola wood flowers to polish the look.
Other options are to fill your platter with coffee beans (wouldn’t that smell nice!), dried kidney beans, lentils, or rice, They will add color and texture to your candle arrangement. And you won’t feel guilty tossing any that get melted wax on them.
#2 ~ Scatter Votive Candles Down Your Dining Table
Scattering votive or tea light candle holders down the length of your table will make it feel longer.
Start with three votive candles and add more depending on the length of your dining table. You can place them in a straight line, or stager them, depending on your preference. Both ways look wonderful.

#3 ~ Decorate Your Dining Table with Candles at Different Heights
There’s something visually appealing about candles at different heights. This is why you often see candle holders sold in pairs or groups at different heights.
When you place them on your dining table, if you have three candles, put the taller candle holder in the middle. If you have five candles, put the taller candle holders between the smaller ones.
It also looks attractive if you create a circle with your different height candles and place the heights randomly.
#4 ~ Decorate Your Table with Floating Candles

I think floating candles are often forgotten as an option to decorate a dining table.
Create a magical table by decorating your table with floating candles in a clear bowl or bowls. Watching the candles float while you eat is very peaceful.
You can use any kind of bowl; tall, short, wide, or narrow, as long as there is space for the candle(s) to float.
If you are using a clear bowl; change up the look with pebbles, colored beads, or add a little food coloring to tint the water color.
#5 ~ Place a Wreath on Your Dining Room Table
Wreaths aren’t just for doors. They also look fantastic on a dining table, with a candle placed in the center.
When you’re using a wreath to highlight a candle, you should place a small tray in the middle of the wreath to protect your table and catch any melted wax. Or place a candle holder in the middle of the wreath with a candle inside the holder.
You can even fill the candle holder with sand or glass beads to add to the overall look.
#6 ~ Use Candles in Wine Bottles or Bud Vases
Are you looking for a unique way to decorate a dining room with candles? Then consider placing taper candles in bud vases. It’s a fun new use for your bud vases when you aren’t using them for flowers.

Or create a vintage look with wine bottles.
Don’t toss your empty wine bottles, instead clean them, remove the labels, and place taper candles in the opening. Just like your ancestors did.
Talk about a great way to recycle and repurpose!
The great thing about these ways you can decorate candles on a dining table is that they can be part of your decor. Just leave them out as your table’s centerpiece and enjoy the arrangement you created.
*Don’t forget to blow out your candles!
