This year I decided to style a casual Father’s Day table setting.
One that I think all dads will appreciate. But I wasn’t sure what the primary color should be.
You know ~ the color that dominates the tablescape.
So, I did a poll on my YouTube community page to see what colors people would prefer for their Father’s Day tablescape.
While I expected grays and neutrals to be popular, a whopping 70% voted for dark blues!
I loved that idea, so I dove into my stash of dishes and linens.
The problem?
Most of my blue stuff leans a little feminine.
… Enter my amazing husband!
He gave me tons of feedback on what he liked (and disliked!), which helped style this table setting.

Here’s the thing: I’m not going for a themed table.
No golf, sports, barbecue, cars, or trucks here.
This is a more neutral, all-encompassing look for Father’s Day.
Also, I’m ditching the flowers (my husband’s request!), but I have a fun napkin fold you’ll love.
Let’s get started!
How to Style a Casual Father’s Day Table Setting
Or watch the video …
Building the Base
For the foundation, I went with a white with blue striped tablecloth.
It’s casual and not too fancy (I found it at Target a while back).
Then, I layered on blue placemats which I’d found at HomeGoods. (I see these type of placemats in lots of colors there.)
Mixing Up the Plates
For the dinner plates, I decided to use two different ones. (Because I didn’t have 6 of either design.)
One patterned style sits at the head and foot of the table, and a different style fills out the sides.
I know, some might think they’re too feminine, but trust me, it works!
(Plus, hubby approved.)
To break up that potential feminine vibe, I added solid blue salad plates on top of the dinner plates. They also tie in with the placemats and tablecloth stripes.
Adding the Glassware
For the glassware on this Father’s Day tablescape, I opted for something a little different. (with hubby’s input ~ of course!)
First, I added beautiful mid-century modern blue water glasses.
Then I added fun beer glasses ~ instead of wine glasses.
Why?
Well, wine glasses tend to elevate the look of a tablescape and give it a formal vibe.
And this is a casual table setting ~ not a formal one.
Napkin Fun!
I mentioned a fun napkin fold, right?
This one’s PERFECT for all dads.
It’s a collared shirt!

Here’s how to do it:
- Fold the napkin corners into the middle. Don’t worry if it’s not a perfect square – it’ll still look great!
- Take one end and fold it to the middle, then repeat with the opposite end.
- With the napkin folded in half lengthwise, fold the top down about an inch.
- Take the top two corners and fold them diagonally inwards.
- Fold the bottom half upwards about halfway, creating a “wing” effect on each side.
- Now comes the tricky part: bring the bottom fold up and tuck it under the corner folds. Press the creases to keep everything in place.
Isn’t that a cute little shirt-shaped napkin?

Centerpiece with a Chill
For the centerpiece, I decided to skip the flowers (thanks, hubby!).
Instead, I’m using a metal bucket with a trash bag lining the inside (to prevent leaks).

Here’s the cool part: I’m adding ice packs and then filling the bucket with beer and sodas! This keeps the drinks cold and ties in with the beer glasses.
Setting the Mood
To finish things off, I added some sleek pewter candle holders with dark blue candles. It creates a perfect little ambiance for the table.

So, what do you think?
This casual Father’s Day table setting is dad-approved and ready for your celebration.
Have a wonderful Father’s Day with your family!
