There are 5 telltale signs it’s time to get new dishes. Are your dishes telling you it’s time to pitch them?
I think that sometimes we hold onto dishes far longer than needed. That we get used to using them day after day. They become that old pair of sweats that are so comfortable that we wear them until they’re falling apart.
And then one day we look at them and question if it’s time to get a new set.
If your dishes fall into one of the 5 signs below, then it’s time for you to get new dishes.
5 Signs It’s Time to Get New Dishes

1. It’s time to get new dishes when they’re chipped
It’s inevitable. Your dishes will eventually get chipped, unless you are always ultra careful with them.
It can’t be helped. When putting them away, loading them in the dishwasher, or even putting them in the sink, your dishes will hit something at the right angle, with the right amount of force, and a chip gets knocked off.
You’ll probably deal with a few chipped dishes, but at some point, it’ll feel like every single freak’n dish has a chip.
Face it ~ it’s time for a new set of dishes.

2. You’re bored of your dishes
Are you bored of your dishes? Do they no longer bring you joy? Do you take out a plate and just go “engh”?
I get it. Totally.
I think we think of dishes as tools after a while. That they’re just a means to hold our food. They’re a vessel.
But you should enjoy using your dishes. You should like to use them and appreciate how they look on your table.
If you’re seriously bored with your plates, it’s time to get new ones.
3. Food just doesn’t look good on your dishes ~ it’s time for a new set
When you bought your first set of dishes, you probably only thought about how pretty they were. How much you loved the design and how they looked. You didn’t give a thought as to how your food would look on them.
You didn’t realize that your plates would set the stage for food presentation.
And every time you eat off of them, you’re food just doesn’t look that good. No matter how much you try to be Ina Garten or Jamie Oliver. In fact, your dishes make your food look less appetizing.
So ~ it’s time ~ time to get new dishes that enhance the look of your food. You’ll really appreciate eating off them. And your food will look SO MUCH yummier!
4. Your plates are stained and worn

After years of use, your dishes will start to stain and look seriously worn. Or the glaze cracks.
It doesn’t matter what you try to make them look better. You can’t. There are stains on plates that just can’t be removed. And nothing can be done to fix cracked glaze.
At that point, you need to give in and get a new set of dishes. The ones you’re using have served their purpose and it’s time to find new ones.
5. Your dishes no longer match your style
As you get older, your style might change. Maybe you were all about bright bold colors when you bought your first set of dishes. Your dishes reflected your style at that time.
But not now. Your taste and style have changed. Now you’re all about the farmhouse or ultra-minimalist look, and those dishes just don’t work with your style or decor.
Then it’s time for a new set of dishes. A set that speaks to who you are today. And will compliment your style.
If your dishes are showing signs of needing to be replaced, embrace it. Donate the ones still in good condition and start shopping for a new set. A set of dishes that reflects who you are today. I bet you’ll really enjoy using and eating off of them.
